Stefany was born with bilateral talipes equinovarus (clubfeet deformity) and was brought to a medical clinic run by Tom Collins, M.D., in Flores, Honduras in July 2003. Tom determined that this little toddler needed corrective orthopedic surgery or she would never have the ability to walk. Tom and Emily brought Stefany to the United States in November 2003 where she began receiving treatment at Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, MA. During her five month stay, Stefany’s treatment included an initial casting of six weeks, surgery to her feet, and post operative casting for twelve weeks. Since that trip, Stefany has returned to Shriners for a follow-up appointment at which time the doctors determined the surgery and follow-up treatment (corrective shoes) was successful. Stefany currently attends school in LaVilla, Honduras.
